Junior Golf
2008 Camp Information
Registration Form |
PDF Version Jupiter Dunes operates a renowned summer golf camp for children between the ages of 6 and 14. The program runs for three weeks in June and three weeks in July. Sessions always fill up and have waiting lists…so please keep checking back to ensure you don’t miss registration opening. It is our philosophy that golf is a game – and kids like to play! Over the past seven years we have taught a lot…and learned even more. That has taken us to where we are today…one of the largest and most respected junior golf programs in the south.
Children of all ages have relatively short attention spans. Consequently we have developed a teaching style and lesson program that allows us to keep them smiling, motivated and engaged – thereby ensuring that they get as much out of their time here as possible For most kids…doing anything day after day becomes like work – repetitive and boring. We never want our juniors to dread their time at the golf course. To ensure that golf is something they look forward to, we have structures our summer camp over three weeks – every other day for no more than two hours. The best teachers – are teachers! Our staff of instructors includes elementary and middle school physical education teachers, golf team coaches together with golf professional. We work together to create a fun, nurturing and safe environment for your child. Kids are easily intimidated and can be very self conscious – especially when learning something new. In appreciation of this we group kids in teams of their peers – who have had similar exposure to golf, experience and ability. Together with teaching kids how to play, we have learned the value of emphasizing sportsmanship, supportiveness, integrity and etiquette. Who says golf isn’t a team sport? Being competitive is a part of sport. Some children are more ready than others to go head to head with their peers. Recognizing this, we introduce our juniors gradually to competition through team games, challenges and skills testing. By the time camp ends – our juniors are ready, willing and able to compete in our session ending stroke play tournament.! Children want to show off what they have learned. The more time parents can give to watch, listen or play with their kids – the better! We urge all of our kids to play golf outside of camp, and allow them on the course anytime…with or without Mom or Dad. …AND MORE ADVANCED JUNIORS? Perhaps you have a child that wants to advance their golf future…take their game to the next level and develop the skills needed to play on their school teams and potentially beyond? We though it might be helpful to provide you with the tools to best encourage their goals – while still nurturing their love of the game. Here’s a list of "do’s and don’ts" aiming to help you do just that! DO Stay involved Take off any pressure to win Be supportive, interested and encouraging Be there when they lose…because they will Be rough on cheating and lack of sportsmanship Be rough on displays of anger Make sure your child’s self esteem is NOT linked to his performance on the golf course Take the focus off winning and put it on personal developmentEnsure that your child’s ego is not on the line while playing golf Look supportive, relaxed and comfortable when watching your child play or compete DON’T Put pressure on your child to win – or get overly excited when he or she does perform well Be upset by losses or poor play Show negative emotions, fear or nervousness when watching your child play Be a coach. Leave instruction to a qualified professional whom you and your child trust and relate to Use love, bribery or material rewards to get your child to work harder…or play better Get over involved At Jupiter Dunes, we want parents to be part of their children’s golfing pursuits the right way. What they need and want from you most is support and encouragement regardless of their performance. |
